I went to see this ages ago and played with this idea or creating a review for a while and I finally decided to go on with it! Now a disclaimer first, this is all my personal thoughts and opinions of the movie, so please don't start a fight. Also it isn't like a professional review either, mostly just ramblings : )

So I'll start and say that I was really excited about the movie - with how the first movie played out and the following TV series (which I love) I had high expectations for the movie. This is probably the reason I was so disappointed with how it turned out.

What I loved about the ones before was how it wasn't just adventure and action but it held lots of character and emotion - which I love in my movies. So while the first movie to me was 2 parts emotional and 1 part action which got it into my favors, the second one was really 1 part emotion, two parts action which... really didn't float my boat - half way through the movie I was actually wishing for it to end (in the big fight scene) ... which on a first time viewing of one of my favourite series is pretty bad (I had to watch the first movie many times over - constantly I may add - before I started to feel a little bit bored)

Also I felt that it didn't really delve into the characters that much and the emotion (especially Stoicks death) seemed quite forced to me. Like during that whole scene I was expecting him to appear alive later or something as it seemed really random for him to die. I didn't even end up crying because of that. Also all the characters didn't seem interesting to me. None of them felt right - I liked hiccup a bit but really less then usual all that kept him interesting to me in this movie was how hot he looked - and his dry humor but there wasn't so much of that apart from in the beginning. (well as far as I remember - I don't think there was much room in all the action for it)
The addition of that new guy (who is so uninteresting I can't even bother looking up his name) seemed really forced as well - his transition wasn't really emotional - he just did some comedy on the side lines and then just changed sides to me - he really wasn't needed :/

Another thing which really bugged me was the time when hiccup shoved toothless away once he'd been controlled - it was just such a cliche and it wasn't really worked that well to me for the cliche to have been ignored. Also when hiccup tried to get him back it wasn't very emotional either which it could have been! So it was a bit dissapointing/

On the upside though, the designs of all the new dragons was great! So was hiccups design - he really blossomed (that's...probably the wrong word but oh well) I have zero clue why toothless went all glowy (it was probably explained (?) and I missed it) was a tiny bit random. The animation was also quite beautiful~

Well anyway, here is my tiny worthless review of a movie - it could have been much better if they had changed the pacing probably, and some of the scenes - I've also probably missed half of the ideas which I wanted to put into this review - I have a terrible memory for that sort of thing - so yeah/
